Hello my name is Chelsea Munson. I am a cosmetologist and I am currently training to become a Redken artist and eventually an educator. I officially began my journey in the cosmetology industry at Capri College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in January 2007, but my interest in this field began when I was a kid. During my teen years I had many people telling me that my passion for hair was "not a real job" that I would not be able to make a living doing hair. I was told that I should consider the medical field after I graduated high school I was very torn about my path but ultimately decided to go with my gut. It was scary but deep down I knew it was the right move. After 2100 hours of cosmetology school, 2 very different salon environments in Iowa, tons of additional education + training, plus a move to South Dakota I can say that I have been able to build the career I had dreamed of as a young girl. I learned having a successful career in this industry is possible if you are willing to put in the time, effort, and learn to love and grow though the highs and lows. There are so many opportunities and paths you get to choose from in the beauty industry. I get so much joy out of helping people feel their most confident and best, through helping them look their best while they are in my chair. The other part of my career that fills my cup is being able to work as part of a team who supports one another. I have found a passion for education in this field and I am so blessed when I am able to pass on knowledge from my experience, mistakes, and my own education to my fellow stylists. I'm always looking for new ways to learn, and grow personally and professionally, and by doing that it allows me to help other cosmetologists be able to find their own success in their cosmetology career.
